Helene took us all by surprise. Nobody thought it was going to be as bad as it was. We are all very fortunate that everybody was safe. We had all of our visitors and families out on Wednesday night when the water started rising. By Friday morning the water was surrounding our family homes. Everything was under water. Friday by lunch time we were able to walk around and survey the damage and it was sickening the amount of destruction that Helen had left in its wake. We were left with no power or water for 15 days. No way to access town or family or friends to see if anyone was ok. We alongside our neighbors literally dug ourselves out with tractors and chainsaws by Monday 12pm we were able to get off our road and into town. Well, what was left of town. We had to drive 45 min away just to get supplies.
. We applied for a disaster loan as soon as we could. We started cleaning debris, trees and getting things together to house families that lost their homes. People were coming from all over donating campers to help these families that lost everything it just warmed our hearts to see such love from complete strangers. We will be Closed to overnight visitors for the year of 2025 while we do all the much-needed repairs to the campground and to give the families time to find their way in their new reality of having to start over. We lost our bridge to the tent area we lost our Laural Haven Cabin and one of our Septic tanks along with income from what would have been our busiest time of year.
We will be closed part of 2025 and plan to reopen fully in 2026.
We have received our funding from the SBA disaster relief. We added 10 additional sites for those that lost their home to Helene. We remodeled our restrooms and laundry area with a second set of machines. We updated the camp store and coffee shop with new equipment and a new firwood station. We plan on putting in a new bridge to access our tenting area and getting that back up and running. We got all new fire rings and building new tables. We put up a new fence with lights all alongside the main road with gates entering the additional properties. The main entrance does not have a gate. We added Wi-Fi thru out most of the campground. So many more updates to come.
